Your Body is Designed to Heal! Our Job is to Facilitate Healing!

Did you know that if you accidentally cut off the end of your finger anywhere beyond the last knuckle that your body would completely regenerate it perfectly as long as your doctor doesn't sew the skin closed at the end?

When you are healthy, your body regenerates a brand new stomach lining every 4 days, new skin every 30 days, a new liver in 6 weeks, and even the skeleton is replaced every three months. Your hair grows half an inch a month, and adult fingernails grow one-tenth of an inch a month. Pictured with this post is the regeneration of human nerve cells, the slowest tissue to naturally heal. This natural regeneration of your body is greatly influenced by your overall health. 

Natural repair/regeneration is most obvious when you have a simple problem like a blister. It will take four weeks for the skin to completely heal to the point that you cannot see where the blister was. Obviously it will take longer than four weeks if you pick at the blister and the scab, if it gets infected, or if you are nutritionally depleted. 

It is the proverbial "salt in the wound" when disease has injured the tissues of virtually every system in the body. Nothing can regenerate and repair correctly when all that is being done by your doctor are medications that are damaging the body and covering up the symptoms. 

We are in such a quick-fix society that many people are very impatient when their illness takes a long time to heal. Often a person will give their doctor very minimal time to make significant change in their illness or they will write the doctor or the system of care off as being no good. 

We frequently see significant change happen in two weeks of care, however the body is dynamic and constantly changing, which means the carefully selected remedies you are taking must be adjusted periodically. The person you were yesterday no longer exists. Especially in the chronic illnesses, the idea that you can just get on a selection of remedies and take them for a year or more and eventually be well is misguided. 

At the Hansa Center we find that when the remedies are addressing your issues at the direct cause, then they do what they are going to do rather quickly, and then we will adjust the remedies to 
address whatever issue is remaining. If you have been sick for a long time, it is likely that almost every tissue and every system of your body is impaired in its ability to regenerate and heal. Your hair virtually stops growing, and your skin gets thinner as it cannot regenerate as fast as its skin cells are flaking off.

So this is why every system and every issue must be addressed during every office visit with your doctor when you have a chronic illness. Do not accept the idea that "If my doctor can just kill all of these bacteria, then I will be well." You will be well when every system and issue has been restored to optimum health, and that health maintained long enough for your body to be able to replace the dysfunctional cells with healthy ones. Persistent symptoms are not a sign of bacteria or viruses, but are instead a sign of tissue irritation or damage.

True healing never seeks to simply mask the symptoms, since that would defeat the point of truly healing.

My point is that your healthcare team should be working to identify every single issue in your entire body on every single office visit! Health and healing is a function of the body, not the function of a medication or selection of remedies. Pharmaceuticals are most often a trap, since almost all of them only suppress the symptoms, meaning once you start them you must stay on them forever. They are not fixing anything, otherwise you would not need to take them forever. Find doctors at the very start of your illness who work to restore the body's ability to function correctly and your symptoms and illness will fall away.

If you are years into your illness then you are likely a more difficult case. If your conventional doctor did not seek to facilitate the restoration of your body to function normally or was unsuccessful in their attempts then you probably cannot just stop your meds. It will require some skillful treatments to enable your body to get back to work and truly heal.

All the Correct Remedies, No Improvement?

Exercise intolerance and sluggish healing are common problems in people suffering from chronic illness. For all of the great intentions, exercise machines are most often used as a place to hang clothes. It is the proverbial "catch 22," you know you need to exercise to get back to the health you desire, but your body is too weak and the post-workout pain it too much to endure, to continue working out. Many chronically ill people have a veritable pharmacy of half used and now expired natural and prescription bottles in their cupboards due to worsening symptoms or no relief when they took them. As you will see both situations are often from the same problem.

Blown Circuits in the Body

What most people, and unfortunately most doctors, don't know is that the many muscle groups of the body are set up on dedicated circuits, much like the circuits of your house. If you go to the circuit breaker box in your house you will see that there are many different circuits dedicated to the various areas of your house. 

In a circuit in the body you will find the following all sharing a somewhat dedicated electromagnetic circuit… one organ, gland, certain teeth, certain nerves, joints, and certain muscles. For example, the front two teeth on the upper and lower jaw sit on the same circuit as the kidneys, ears, pineal gland, and the psoas muscles on both sides of the body.

The big quadriceps muscles that are located on the top of your thigh, that help you climb stairs, sit on the same circuit with the small intestines, and so on... If there are problems anywhere on these circuits the body will not give 100% energy to the blown, dysfunctional circuit, so that you will not damage things further by being able to go full-tilt on a damaged circuit. 

So problems anywhere in the circuit from structural, chemical, stress-related issues, or bioenergetic "software/bioregulation" problems in the circuits will cause the entire circuit to "blow" and everything on that circuit suffers the same fate.

When these circuits are "blown," the muscles on these circuits will only work at about 40% of maximum integrity. “It isn’t a problem with not working out enough.” With just 40% of the normal strength available, there is not enough strength in the muscles to stabilize the joints, leading to pain, nor is there enough mitochondria (energy factories in the muscle fibers) to produce enough ATP (what your body uses for energy) to enable you to do many repetitions of your workout. 

Post workout pain is often due to the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles (loading up on Lipospheric Vitamin C before workouts can help minimize this from happening), the stirring up of toxins, as well as inflammation set up by the many micro-traumas in the tissues from the strain of working out without any circuit integrity. 

"Blown circuits" happen when there are any type of physical, chemical, stress, or bioenergetic problem in the body, not to mention when multiples of these issues are going on at the same time.

One can work out, and even make strength gains, but it will still be only about
40% of what should be available. Taking all the right sounding remedies, if they are not what is needed to turn on the circuits, will only provide brief symptom relief after which they stop working.

Working to detoxify the body, while always a good idea in this day and age, or killing bad bacteria will most often not result in turning on the full power to the circuits.

It would be nice if it were that easy, but it unfortunately requires a health care professional trained to test and treat the entire circuit...especially in any chronic illness.

Imagine how fast you would go, or how much more rapidly your body could heal, having 60% more integrity in the muscles!” 

Again, while eating and living with integrity are definitely steps in the right direction, only a doctor trained to identify and address the myriad of circuit problems can get your body truly reset. 

The key to understanding how important these connections are is that any problem anywhere in the circuit will cause everything on that circuit to “blow”, much like overloading the electrical circuit in your house. Everything on the circuit will suffer the same fate! 

So in the above example, if the tooth has a bad infection or is being affected by a large silver amalgam filling, or even a bad root canal, it will “blow” the energetic integrity of everything else on that circuit, and the psoas muscles will reflect the problem as a loss of strength.

Athletes depend upon their muscles to ultimately perform and excel in their sport. Few people understand that it is not enough to simply exercise a lot. Not if you want to become a truly world-class athlete, or to simply get back to health and endurance after a prolonged illness.

Addressing Ammonia Toxicity From Lyme Disease, MS, ALS, Autism, and Parkinsons

If you have Lyme disease, MSALS, Parkinson's, Autism, and many other chronic have ammonia accumulating in your brain and tissues. It is imperative to the healing process that you and your doctor address the ammonia at the same time as you are addressing the cause of the ammonia...the Lyme bacteria, through the Borrelia burgdorferi production of urease enzyme!

Hyperammonemia (Excess accumulation of ammonia in the brain and tissues of the body) in combination with cerebral venous circulation disturbances, microbial issues and metabolic pathway dysfunction are largely unaddressed components that cause muscle weakness, muscle wasting, profound fatigue, mitochondria damage, tremors, brain dysfunction, depersonalization, depression, neuropathy, and muscle fasciculations seen in MS, ALS, and Parkinson's disease. Of course, poor oral bite/TMJ dynamics, environmental electro-polution,  dental mercury and environmental heavy metals, dietary and environmental toxins, also play an important role in the development of these illnesses, however this article focuses on the huge problem of excess ammonia. Stop the accumulation of ammonia often stops the progression of these illnesses.

Beyond hidden bacterial infections, there are other secondary sources that can add to the load of ammonia, such as Candida-type yeast which metabolize gluten from dietary wheat, rye, barley, and oats into ammonia in the gut. Another cause of excessive ammonia is chronic liver dysfunction.

Ammonia is very alkaline at an 11.6 pH. Many doctors have been taught that most sick people have acidic bodies. The reality is not that simple. People may be predominantly acidic, their urine and saliva may be acidic, but they are also extremely alkaline in the areas of ammonia accumulation. Lyme disease is a game changer when it comes to the acid/alkalinity of the body. 

This is why many people worsen when they drink alkalinized water, or are given dietary recommendations such as fresh fruits and vegetables which most often work to alkalinize the body. (No, this is not permission to go back to junk food or processed foods that are acid-promoting!) It appears that alkalinizing these people is only aggravating the already over-alkaline ammonia regions of their body, the brain, heart and liver. The ammonia conditions must be cleared before addressing the more acidic regions of their body! We can extrapolate from the fact that Lyme bacteria seem to thrive in the highly alkaline environment created by ammonia (11.6 pH), that it is not going to work to attempt to kill the bacteria through drinking highly alkaline water, or eating alkaline-promoting diets. Once the Lyme bacteria and ammonia issues are addressed adequately then yes, an alkaline promoting diet is best.

It is almost impossible to culture Lyme bacteria in a lab setting if the growth medium in the petri dish is not just right, or if the temperature or pH is not just right. So from this we can see that Borrelia burgdorferi are not invincible monsters that absolutely cannot be beaten. The challenge then is to "sour the milk" or shift your body's internal environment to one that makes survival very difficult for the bacteria. Correcting the hyperammonemia (high ammonia) issue can help achieve a less hospitable environment for the bacteria, making your other antibacterial efforts possibly more effective.

Not everything can be done with remedies, especially the longer you have been sick. The longer one has been sick the more skill that will be required to successfully facilitate the body's ability to completely heal. It has been my experience that the sicker you are, the longer you have been sick, the more organs and systems of your body that have been damaged, the less likely you can successfully navigate through all the possible treatment options by yourself at home. The remedies I list below can definitely help you, however it may be wise to seek professional help with all the issues going on beyond eliminating ammonia.

You must use the correct tool for the job. Diet, combined with full-spectrum infrared sauna therapy, remedies, nutrition, hands on treatments, and so much more are needed to optimize the body's ability to bring down the population of bacteria, and eliminate the ammonia. 

Most people just want to take some remedies at home and feel better. I understand that, however if you don't feel better it does not mean the remedies are not working, it means there is too much else going on, (such as damaged, inflamed, and irritated tissues) for simply removing the ammonia to correct. 

Remember, ammonia is a toxin. We call things toxins because they damage tissues. It is like burning your finger on the stove. You immediately jerk your hand off the flame, but the burn and pain remains. So simply eliminating the ammonia will not always instantly get rid of the damage to the tissues or the symptoms.

Also, until the bacteria are brought under control, they continue to produce more ammonia, so getting rid of the ammonia will be an ongoing process until your body can successfully beat down the Lyme bacteria. To help the body eliminate the cause of the ammonia, the bacteria, I developed three different formulas, the first of which I presented compelling research for at the International Tick-Borne Diseases Conference in New York City. 

Although no natural formula is cleared by the FDA to treat or cure any named illness, we can make "structure and function" claims for natural formulations. These formulas are not natural antibiotics. They work to enable the body's own defenses to kill the huge numbers if you read the research.

Eliminating the Source of ammonia, the bacteria:
I would recommend discussing with your healthcare professional, starting with Borrelogen™ at 1 dropper 2-3 times a day for one bottle, or as they recommend. Depending upon your response you can the ask your healthcare professional about switching over to Lymogen™ if you need a change, at the same dosage or as they recommend. No matter what way you choose to enable the killing of the Lyme bacteria, conventional antibiotics, or natural remedies, you definitely need to deal with the toxic ammonia. As I have discussed, most medicines and remedies will not cross the blood-brain-barrier (BBB). 

Eliminating the Ammonia:
I have traveled to Brazil to search for botanicals from the Amazon that might effectively clear ammonia from the body. I have tested alongside medicine-men in Africa. I have been to huge plant specimen repositories, and tested large collections of medicinal substances from the world of Chinese medicine, not to mention testing everything I can get my hands on from standard botanical and homeopathic arsenals. There are only two botanicals out of everything I have tested that consistently work and have been verified either by laboratory experiments or by Functional Acuity Contrast Testing (FACT) of the toxins interference in the brain. 

These two botanicals are Silphium laciniatum leaf extract, and Hibiscus sabdarifa leaf extract. I developed the Silphium into a stand alone extract called, "Siphitrin" and enhanced it's effectiveness in the NeuroAntitox Formulas. The Hibiscus sabdarifa leaf extract is available as a stand alone remedy, that can be taken at the same time as the NeuroAntitox Formula or by itself.

When your healthcare professional finds ammonia is not just in the typical Lyme presentation of the liver, heart, brain, and jaws, but is found all over the body, such as is the case with almost all MS and ALS sufferers, then I would suggest using L-Ornithine/L-Aspertate, which used to be a German prescription drug called Hepamertz, that was used for the same purpose of helping reduce the ammonia seen in severe liver diseases. It is now available as a supplement. In that L-Ornithine/L-Aspartate does not work as well as the NeuroAntitox Formula, it is recommended that they be taken together.

Our Hansa Center doctors are trained to also target and suppress the production of urease by the bacteria to help eliminate the ammonia.

Consult with your natural healthcare professional before starting any new supplement. A general recommendation for the SilphitrinHibiscus, or NeuroAntitox Formula is 1-3 droppers, 2-3 times a day, with or without food. 

The Silphitrin and NeuroAntitox Basic Formula can be used in a soaking bath, for those whose digestive systems do not handle remedies and medicines well. The bath instructions are on the label of the bottle. Soak your body no more than 20 minutes in warm water, not hot water. 

Support the Organs of Elimination:
If one studied all the various supplements that support the detoxification and elimination organs it would rapidly be clear that you could spend hundreds of dollars on many different types of products. I have found that Metacrin-DX by Apex Energetics, Inc. is a gentle yet powerful product to support phase-1 and phase 2 of the liver detoxification pathways. 

Fiber is another important component of supporting proper bowel movements and the removal of toxins. Fiber acts like a sponge in the intestines, so I recommend Chewable Total Fiber by Nutriwest, Inc. It is better to have a somewhat dry sponge that can soak up poisonous cellular debris, than do drag a wet rag through the gut, like many fiber products that are mixed in water. 

Of course, drink plenty of purified water everyday to help support cellular function and to support the rapid clearing of toxins. Most people are dehydrated, often even when they drink a lot of water, because they have destroyed the membranes responsible for fluid transportation, impairing the body's ability to  effectively distribute water to the tissues. When the membranes are damaged, a person will often drink copious amounts of water, yet most of the water is rapidly urinated out. This leads to stagnation and dehydration in the tissues and organs, which can be addressed by using a product called Gather Vitality, by K'an Herbs, Inc. 

Juicing your own green drinks or getting them from your local health food store is another vitally important step in supporting the organs of elimination. Try juicing organic cucumber, kale, rainbow chard, apple, whole lime, and parsley or cilantro. It tastes great and is a power packed, nutrient dense infusion of nutrients that support the organs and enable them to have the strength to detox more effectively. Remember, asking the body to detox is asking the body to work really hard, often when the body is already very fatigued. You cannot or should not do any detoxification without also giving the body extra support to do the work.

How to Choose and Use the Best Probiotic for Your Situation

You can take a pharmaceutical drug which has one function and many side-effects, or you can take these friendly bacteria listed in this article and get dozens of huge benefits, with absolutely no side-effects.

New research shows that the healthy human body can have up to 3000 different species of bacteria that outnumber the cells of your body by 10 times! These bacteria (probiotics) protect you from invading bacteria, such as Lyme spirochetes, C. diff, Strep, Staph, E. coli, and every other microbe that may invade your body. Not only do these friendly bacteria kill invading microbes, but they serve vital roles in maintaining health on every single level of the body.

The absence of these probiotic bacteria allows invading bacteria to cause diseases. The absence also causes the breakdown of the body's biochemical engine, leading to dysfunction, degeneration, and is involved in the development of nearly every disease that can be named.

Before sending in your troops of friendly bacteria, discontinue all of the natural products and supplements that you were taking to help the body dislodge and eliminate (kill) as many of the invading microbes in your body. Many of those natural antibacterial products may also harm some of the good guys. Many people are afraid to stop taking their prescription or natural antibiotics, but this fear may be unfounded when considering that probiotic bacteria have been studied since the 1970's and some types have been shown to be able to produce over 100,000 different types of very potent antibiotic compounds that can be selectively produced by the probiotic bacteria to kill and control invading microbes! 

Hopefully you read my previous articles that laid out the grand strategic plan. Simply taking a lot of probiotics will provide short-term gains, but that strategy is doomed to fail in the long term if you don't prepare your body ahead of time to ensure their successful colonization in your body.

Choosing which Probiotics to take:

I have listed many of the most researched probiotic bacteria later in this article so that you and your doctor can select the most beneficial ones for your situation. Taking more types and quantities than you need is not better.

There are many genetic variations of the same species of probiotic bacteria. So one company that sells Lactobacillus acidophilus may have a genetic strain that is different than another company's Lactobacillus acidophilus. One brand may work much better for your unique body than another. The best system is to choose the species of bacteria most likely to address your health concern; read the labels of different brands of probiotics. Finish the bottle and if you got less effect than you desired then stay with the same species but switch brands. 

You will find that everyone has a favorite brand of probiotic which worked wonders for them. The same brand may not do anything for your body, because it is not the genetic variation your particular body needs. Of course always use the best brand you can afford. 

If you have a specific health concern you need addressed I would recommend you initially avoid taking probiotic supplements with many types of beneficial bacteria, and instead take a brand that has just the types of bacteria you feel you need. It is much better to take just what you need at first instead of throwing some of everything at your body, so that you don't have every type attempting to colonize at the same time.

The probiotic bacteria you take, either in supplements or fermented foods, may be the same species, but they do not carry your family genetic tag, so they most often cannot colonize and become part of your collective bacterial family and are instead eliminated in the bowel movements. This is why our work to give a frequency tag of sorts to the probiotic bacteria we use on our patients is so important. Time will tell just how effective it is.
We keep individual species of probiotic bacteria at the clinic so that we can compound the specific types your body and situation needs, then give them the frequencies needed to hopefully help them "blend in" with your body's friendly bacterial colonies. Remember the point is to get the bacteria to gain a foothold and to colonize permanently in your body, not just to have them kill invaders, heal tissues, and correct your biochemistry as they pass through your intestines and are eliminated in your bowel movements.

What Form of Probiotic to Use:

The form of probiotics I like the best, and possibly the most efficient way to take a wide range of probiotics, is in powdered or encapsulated powder form. These probiotic bacteria are freeze-dried, which puts the bacteria into suspended animation. They are essentially asleep and temperature stable, which means they do not need refrigeration, although keeping them in a cool, dark place is best. Overheating, leaving the bottle lid loose, and exposure to light will create problems. 

To use powdered probiotics, add the serving to 8-10 ounces of room temperature purified spring water, which is non-chlorinated and has no fluoride, both of which will kill the probiotics, a good indication that you should never, ever drink chlorinated/fluorinated water. Distilled water is demineralized and therefore will be tough on the probiotics. Over acidic/alkaline water will also kill the probiotics. Purified, spring water is usually a very neutral pH (not too acidic or alkaline).

If you are using the capsule form of probiotic then open the capsule and empty the powder into about 8-10 ounces of water and let sit for a few minutes for all them to reanimate or wake up. Most manufactures of probiotics have developed strains of bacteria that are pH stable, so they can survive the full range of pH environments found in the body, from the mouth to the anus. 

Allow the water with the added probiotics to sit for a few minutes to give the bacteria time to "wake up" or re-animate before they have to get to work. Take the probiotic water two hours away from food. When there is food in the stomach, the pylorus, the valve-like muscle at the bottom of the stomach is closed and the stomach acid is high to breakdown the food. When the stomach is empty then the pylorus valve is open and the stomach acid should be at its lowest. By putting your probiotics in 8-10 ounces of water you increase the likelihood of washing them all the way through the stomach and into the small intestines where they can get to work.

Swish the probiotic water around your mouth and teeth before swallowing. Many of the bacteria help prevent dental cavities and fight periodontal disease. Indeed, probiotic bacteria are needed to colonize on every mucus membrane, from the mouth, nose, and sinuses, through the esophagus, lungs, and intestines.

Other forms of probiotics are pearls, liquids, and fermented food products. All of these are fine and my suggestion is to follow the manufacturer's or your doctor's recommendation as to when and how to take them. 

How Much to Take:

Some species of probiotic bacteria are hardier and tend to colonize more easily in your body, and therefore are not needed in as high of numbers per serving as other less hardy species. Most of the various types of readily available probiotic bacteria species need to have at least 10-15 billion CFU's (Colony Forming Units) per serving in order to be effective. A therapeutic dosage would be 20 Billion CFU's per serving. I would advise avoiding any company's probiotic that simply lists the amount of bacteria in milligrams, since you really do not know how many bacteria you are taking. 

Soil-based bacteria are often hardier and therefore less per serving are needed. This would included Bacillus subtilis, and coagulans. For these, a serving of 500 million to possibly 1 billion is all that is needed and taking more is not recommended as all the various species of bacteria in your body need to be in the correct population ratio without unnecessary competition.

This can be done two to three times a day or as directed by your health care professional. Listen to your body and adjust serving and times per day to minimize any potential discomfort you may experience.

Feeding Your Probiotics:

Supply your probiotics with the types of food they enjoy to ensure that they stay stronger than the bad guys. Feed them by eating organic food at mealtime and prebiotics, such as inulin or Jerusalem Artichoke. The word prebiotics is just a term for specific types of foods that feed bacteria. It is hugely important to feed your good bacteria, but do NOT use these foods, such as Inulin and Jerusalem artichoke until after you have completed the "Preparing Your Body for Probiotic Success Against Disease" section. The bad bacteria also love these foods.

Support not just your digestion but your good bacterial ability to also enjoy proper digestion by chewing all of your food completely before swallowing. The bacteria are microscopic, so when you swallow big chunks of food that are poorly chewed, it is like telling a person to eat a carrot the size of a skyscraper. The bad bacteria love big chunks of undigested food, since this food putrefies inside your gut and toxic sludge is what they love to eat! No matter what you are eating - meat, veggies, grains, or fruit, all of it should be the consistency of baby food before you swallow it. There are many important reasons for slowing down and chewing your food, but in this situation it is a highly important step to feed your bacterial army.

Gently Detoxify Your Intestines
Bad bacteria produce toxins that damage your body, such as cadaverinespermine, and putrecine. You must detoxify the body through strategic use of fiber and toxin-binders. Probiotic Retention Enemas:
One of the most successful ways of introducing probiotics into the body is through doing probiotic retention enemas. To do this enema, start by doing a Gold-roast coffee enema to clean out the feces and putrified matter from the colon as outlined in my previous article. Prepare the probiotic water as detailed above, only this time put the powder in 2-3 ounces of body temperature water. Using a bulb enema applicator, lay on your left side and squeeze the bulb, injecting the probiotic water into the rectum. The idea is to retain this inside of your colon allowing it to flow through to the entire length of the colon. Once inside your rectum, roll to the elbows and knees position for a minute and then lay on your right side, allowing it to go to that side of the colon. Keep this in your body. The water will be absorbed and the bacteria will go to work right where you need them. Since the small intestines cannot be reached with this method, you should also take the probiotics orally as detailed above.
